What is pay-at-the-table? A system that allows customers to complete payment directly at their table using wireless terminals, tablets, or mobile devices.
The CityCheers SuperApp provides this capability running on your Android or IOS phone. How does pay-at-the-table differ from traditional payment?

Instead of servers taking the card to a stationary POS terminal to run through their merchant services provider, print the check back to the table to have the card owner sign the check with optional tip, and then return to the stationary POS terminal to close out the check and enter any tips. With the CityCheers SuperApp, you check in to the restaurant and tell your server you are paying with ExpressCheck, and as soon as they take your order and enter it into the POS, they then select your picture from the checked in Patron List and the check shows up in the App. Once you are done eating, you click pay now and you can leave. It’s that simple.

Security & Compliance

Do I have to use my credit card each time I use ExpressCheck?

You only have to enter your credit one time in the App and you can leave it at home and use ExpressCheck to eat at any bar and restaurant in America that is using ExpressCheck.

How secure are wire payments to the table?

Transactions are encrypted end-to-end, tokens are used for authentication and authorization, and your credit card information is never exposed, which minimizes fraud or theft.

What hardware is required?

For venues, the ExpressCheck software runs on the terminals to allow ticket assignment and on the main server to communication with the POS system for payments and transaction details. For cloud-based POS solutions, the software is only installed on the terminals and the POS server communication happens in the cloud. For patrons running the App, all that is needed is an Android or IOS phone and install the CityCheers SuperApp from the App Store.

How do I use the search filter?

Click on the search tab of the main page, and either specify a venue or a location (city, state or zip) or choose nearby, and optionally some search term you would like to match. For more granular searching, you can click the filters tab on the main page, and select specific cuisine, venue type, or entertainment type to narrow down the search on the search page.

I don’t see the venue I am near on the app?

Your most recent search will stay active, until you clear it. If you are not seeing restaurants near you, try clearing the search in the search tab and/or clearing the filters.

Where do I find my receipts?

Receipts can be found by clicking the wallet icon on the bottom right of the main screen. Then, in the wallet screen, the receipt history icon at the top can be used to show past receipts.

What is instant gifting?

Instant gifting is a gift you can purchase for someone by specifying a dollar amount and location, which they will receive via e-mail and can add into their wallet to use in the CityCheers SuperApp. The instant gift can be used right away for partial or the complete meal.  Any remaining balance will be shown in the wallet after it has been used.

How do I add my rewards to my tab?

To add and use a reward, you do this when you click to pay your bill on the check details screen. When you click pay now, you are given the opportunity to select a reward to use or an instant gift to use along with the check. Selecting the reward will automatically adjust the final total and allow you to confirm this before making payment.

Server FAQs

When does the patron need to tell me their name?

The patron should tell the server they are paying with ExpressCheck, along with their name, when they order their food. This tells the server they should assign the check after the order is created to the customer using the ExpressCheck Web Portal. As soon as this is done, the patron will see their check on their phone.

Can they see their tab on the app?

Yes, as soon as the check is assigned to the customer in the ExpressCheck Web Portal, they will be able to see the check and pay the bill, along with a tip right from their phone.

Do I still need to print a receipt?

No, there is no need to print a receipt. If the customer asks for a printed receipt, you can remind them that they will automatically be sent a copy of the receipt to their e-mail address, plus it will be available in the CityCheers app.

Can they tip on the app?

Absolutely, they can tip in the app. It will be automatically assigned to the server who created the check. They also have the option of paying the tip in cash and leaving it on the table. In this case, it will show as a $0 tip in the closed check details on the POS, and not tracked by CityCheers. A tip report showing all tips received for ExpressCheck transactions for a selected time period is available from the ExpressCheck Web Portal, in addition to what is provided by the POS system.

Do I need to close out their tab?

The customers are encouraged to pay in the app before leaving the table, but if they forgot or tried to leave without paying, you can choose to force their payment plus a 20% tip, by tapping their face in the WebPortal, and then selecting the “Charge” button. Additionally, if your venue is setup with the auto-close feature enabled, you don’t have to do anything and these checks will automatically paid and closed after either a set period of inactivity or after the business close, depending on how it is configured.

Where is the ExpressCheck button on the POS?

This varies, depending on the POS type, but there is typically an ExpressCheck button on either the table layout page, payment page, or similar common area of the POS.

How do I add rewards to a patron tab?

Rewards can be added any time after the check has been assigned to the customer and before they finish paying the check. On the same screen that is used to pay for the check, there is an option to select a reward to add to the check. It will automatically be included and the ticket adjusted accordingly before payment is made.

How do I split checks?

This depends on the POS type. Typically you would split the tickets the standard way you would for normal tickets, then you can select an ExpressCheck patron to each check that the customer indicates they will use ExpressCheck for. Each person will receive the check and items from their check only and each person that pays will pay just for their portion, plus tax, tips, etc.

How do I apply an instant gifting reward?

At the check payment screen, after you click Pay Now, it will give the option to apply rewards or a gift card, which can be used to pay for a partial or full amount of the check. Any left over amount will be available for your next visit.

How do I save my tips after a patron closes their tab?

Tips are automatically recorded for the server assigned the check. There is no need to adjust the check or do anything to have the tip assigned to you. You can get a tip report for a specified time/date range to see the details of all tips received, in addition to what is available on the POS.
